The ThinkTank Chronicles.

This is my journey from the deeply mysterious to the outrageously silly and mundace happenings of my life. the lows and highs, the ups and downs. And maybe a Simple Harmonic Motion to an exponential curve. Mathematical, Scientific, Theistic, Philosophical, Logical,Social, every conceivable idea.

a great short story

A great short story i would like to read someday. I dont know Tamil yet.Raises lot of other questions but the beauty is in this very story itself.

It is the story of a young woman, a victim of sexual seduction, who could in the normal course have been destroyed by trauma and guilt. Instead, she is ceremonially cleansed by her mother who sprinkles Ganga water over her and proclaims her “pure and untainted”. The young woman presumably overcomes her sense of shame and victimisation and goes on to lead a happy, harmonious life.

The first thing that comes to mind after reading this is Ramayana, isnt it? Anyways, the name of this short story is Agnipravesham.

Yup.. its a story by Jayakanthan - who incidentally bagged this year's Jnanpith award.

It was made into a movie Sila Nerangalil Sila Manithargal (Of certain people at certain times)...

Have watched the movie - never read the story - but I am told that the movie totally deviates from the way the story actually ends...

The story suggests that she gets on with her life - but the movie quite cinematically makes the victim go back to the abuser, who takes her after a change of heart

In the movie, i read that, she actually gets to read this story {a la Valmiki in Ramayana where Rama gets to hear his own story from Lava-Kusa} and she chastises her own mom for not supporting her.

Hmmm...I need to learn Tamil and read more vernacular novels before jumping to the foreign tongues.
